Syften is one of the tools founders and small marketing teams actually like. It is affordable, it is focused on conversations you can act on, and it covers a long list of communities. So if you are searching for a Syften alternative, you probably are not running away from a bad product. More likely you hit one of three walls: you need Linkedin or Facebook, you want X alerts that are faster and not capped at a monthly tweet count, or you want to start without a trial clock.
This is an honest side-by-side with KWatch.io. Syften and KWatch are true peers: both are keyword alert tools, not enterprise dashboards. The differences are in which sources each one covers, how fast alerts arrive per source, and what each plan unlocks. I will say clearly where Syften is the better pick, because for some teams it is.
Syften (operating since 2019, based in Kraków) is AI-filtered keyword monitoring for online communities and the public web. Their list includes Reddit, Hacker News, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Indie Hackers, GitHub, Product Hunt, the Stack Exchange family, Lobste.rs, Dev.to, forums, Slack communities, newsletters, podcasts, Youtube, and public web pages. Alerts go out by email, Slack, RSS/JSON feeds, API, and webhooks. They also offer an archive search so you can see past mentions, AI filtering to suppress noisy matches, and, since 2026, an MCP server and a web scraper for watching page changes.
KWatch.io is keyword social listening with per-second refresh across Reddit, Hacker News, X, Linkedin, Facebook, and Youtube. Email on every plan, including Free. Slack, API webhooks, and MCP start on Business. AI sentiment (positive, neutral, or negative toward your keyword) on Essential and above. Conversation tracking on Reddit and Hacker News lets you get an alert on every new comment in a thread you care about. The Free plan gives you 2 Reddit and 2 Hacker News keyword alerts with no time limit.
The short version: Syften goes wider across developer and indie communities. KWatch goes deeper on the big social networks, especially Linkedin, Facebook, and X.
Syften publishes its prices, which I appreciate. Here is what their pricing page and documentation listed when I checked (October 2026):
| Syften Entry | Syften Standard | Syften PRO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $29.95/mo | $49.95/mo | $119.95/mo |
| Community filters | 3 | 20 | 100 |
| Community results | 100/day | 200/day | 500/day |
| Web filters | 1 (5 results/day) | 5 (20 results/day) | 20 (50 results/day) |
| Archive search | 7 days | 1 month | Unlimited |
| Slack, API, AI filtering | No | Yes | Yes |
| Webhooks, MCP | No | No | Yes |
| X monitoring | Not available | +$40/mo add-on | +$40/mo add-on |

| Linkedin, Facebook | No | No | No |
| Free option | 14-day trial (PRO), no card | ||
The X add-on includes 1,000 tweets per calendar month (roughly 30 a day as a soft daily quota), with overage at $0.04 per extra tweet if you authorize it. The Youtube add-on includes 10 filters. Syften does not have separate user seats; teams usually share one company login and route alerts to different people by email, Slack channel, or tag.
KWatch plans:
Plans are prorated, and there is no published monthly mention cap on KWatch. You are limited by the number of keyword alerts per platform, not by "results per day" or "tweets per month."
A realistic example. Say you want Reddit, Hacker News, and X alerts pushed to a webhook so they land in Clay or n8n. On Syften that is PRO plus the X add-on: $119.95 + $40 = $159.95/mo, with 1,000 tweets a month included. On KWatch that is Business at $79/mo, with 10 X keyword alerts and no tweet meter. If you only need Reddit and Hacker News by email, Syften Entry ($29.95) works, and so does KWatch Free ($0) or Essential ($19).
Syften covers, KWatch does not today: GitHub (issue, pull request review, and commit comments), Stack Exchange, Bluesky, Mastodon, Indie Hackers, Product Hunt, Lobste.rs, Dev.to, assorted forums, some Slack communities, newsletters, podcasts, and the public web (articles, docs, changelogs, competitor blogs). If your audience is developers and indie founders who hang out on GitHub, Stack Overflow, and Bluesky, Syften's breadth is a real advantage, and I would not try to talk you out of it.
KWatch covers, Syften does not:
replyto: operator on Hacker News to catch replies to a given user, but I did not find an equivalent "follow this whole thread" feature in their docs. More on ours in Notifications about new comments on Reddit and Hacker News.Shared ground: Reddit, Hacker News, X, and Youtube. Both tools let you scope Reddit by subreddit and by user, and both can watch posts, comments, or both.
Honest KWatch limits: we do not monitor Instagram, TikTok, GitHub, Stack Overflow, Bluesky, podcasts, or newsletters. We do not offer a searchable archive of past mentions; alerts start when you create the keyword. Youtube is title and description only (spoken audio does not fire an alert). Linkedin and Facebook are posts only.
This is where the two products differ most per source, so here are the numbers each side publishes.
Delivery options:
Syften is genuinely strong on filtering. Its query syntax supports site:, author:, type:, title:, lang:, NOT, and domain matching, and its AI filter ($accept:) can drop matches that do not meet a rule you write in plain English. Their onboarding also auto-generates a starter set of filters from your company and competitors. If you track a common word as a brand name, that AI post-filter is useful.
KWatch filtering is simpler and form-based: required keywords (AND), excluded keywords, languages, posts vs comments, whole words only, case sensitive, included or excluded subreddits, and included or excluded users. AI sentiment on Essential and up tags each mention as positive, neutral, or negative toward your keyword, which helps you prioritize. We do not offer a free-text AI acceptance rule like Syften's.
Both tools are self-serve, so the cheapest way to decide is to run them side by side for a week.
alternative to [competitor] or looking for a [category] tool.If part of what you liked about Syften was watching competitor pages for changes (pricing, changelogs, docs), that is a different job from social listening. Our sister product Page Deltas monitors any website for changes and sends you a summary of what changed.
Pick Syften if your audience lives in developer and indie communities (GitHub, Stack Exchange, Indie Hackers, Bluesky, Mastodon, Lobste.rs, Dev.to) or on podcasts and the open web, if archive search matters, or if you want rich query syntax with AI filtering, and you do not need Linkedin or Facebook.
Pick KWatch.io if the conversations that make you money happen on Reddit, Hacker News, X, Linkedin, Facebook, and Youtube; if you want per-second X alerts without a tweet meter; if you want webhooks and MCP at $79 instead of $119.95 plus add-ons; or if you want a free plan to start.
Use both if you need Syften's developer-community breadth and KWatch's Linkedin, Facebook, and fast X coverage. The two overlap on Reddit and Hacker News, so you could keep those on whichever tool you prefer and avoid paying twice for the same alerts.
For Reddit, Hacker News, X, and Youtube keyword alerts, yes. For GitHub, Stack Exchange, Bluesky, Mastodon, Indie Hackers, podcasts, newsletters, and web pages, no. We do not cover those sources.
No. Syften's own FAQ says it does not monitor Linkedin, and its documentation says it does not monitor Facebook Groups. Linkedin and Facebook are also excluded from its searchable archive.
It is a $40/month add-on on Standard and PRO, with 1,000 tweets per calendar month and optional overage at $0.04 per tweet. It is not available on Entry. On KWatch, X is included from Essential ($19, 2 X keyword alerts) and there is no tweet allowance.
Yes. Free is Reddit 2 and Hacker News 2 keyword alerts, delivered by email, with no time limit and no card. Paid plans are prorated if you stop mid-cycle.
No. KWatch is an alert tool: monitoring starts when you create a keyword. If you need to look back at what was said last month, Syften's archive search is better for that.
If Syften's missing Linkedin and Facebook coverage, or its X add-on, is what pushed you to look around, start on the KWatch free plan with two Reddit and two Hacker News keyword alerts. Confirm a real hit in your inbox, then add Linkedin, X, Facebook, or Youtube on Essential when you need them. No sales call, no trial clock.
